Rack, used with gears in production and life, has an inseparable relationship with gears. The tooth profile of the rack is a straight line instead of an involute (a plane for the tooth surface), equivalent to a cylindrical gear with an infinitely large pitch circle radius. Here are some small pieces of knowledge about racks to help you understand racks more clearly.
1. What is a tooth space?
The tooth space is the space between two adjacent teeth on a gear; the end face is the plane perpendicular to the axis of the gear or worm on a cylindrical gear or cylindrical worm; the normal plane refers to the plane perpendicular to the tooth line of the tooth; the top circle is the circle where the top end of the tooth is located; the root circle is the circle where the bottom of the groove is located; the base circle is the circle where the generating line of the involute makes pure rolling; the pitch circle is the reference circle for calculating the geometric dimensions of the gear in the end face.
2. What is backlash?
Backlash is the amount of clearance between the gear and rack tooth surfaces, which will depend on the selected rack, gear and rack installation accuracy. Backlash can be completely eliminated through our message gear shaft or dual output gear drive system.
3. What is the error of cumulative pitch error?
This refers to the difference between the theoretical value and the actual value of the pitch. This depends on the quality of the selected rack and the GTf value in the technical manual. Some servo systems can compensate for this error using laser interference. Please contact us if you want to achieve a long stroke with zero cumulative pitch error.
4. How to check the quality of teeth?
The quality of teeth refers to the processing accuracy of the tooth surface, which affects the running accuracy, smoothness, backlash and noise level of the drive shaft. The accuracy of the soft material rack reaches DIN9. The accuracy of the induction hardened rack reaches DIN10 due to the deformation caused by the heat treatment process. The accuracy of the quenched and tempered rack reaches DIN8. The accuracy of the quenched & ground rack reaches DIN6 due to the precise grinding of the tooth surface. For higher precision applications, high-precision heat treatment and grinding must be applied.
